Now that I'm on vacation, I am going to give tanking a try. However, I have absolutely no earthly idea how to tank in this game, and I'm already starting on the wrong foot by using my original "creation" (a Paladin-to-be), who currently has all of his points put into STR (that's what I get for listening to people early on about "damage mitigation"), and I don't feel like re-creating him, SO...
What is the best way to tank? I'd assume Shield Lob to pull, followed by Fast Blade > Savage Blade > Rage of Halone with Flash in the crowd, but I've also seen talk of macroing other stuff in-between those to maximize emnity as well as do at least SOME damage. I assume that's much later on, though. ALso, when should one turn their attention to other mobs? Clearly before everyone else (if possible), but I'm unsure as to when.
I'm thinking that a lot of macros might be required, given the breadth of abilities availed to them. Are there any such macros that are deemed a "must" for a Paladin?
I saw someone had Rage of Halone macroed into Provoke, which makes sense, since Provoke puts you at +1 of the hate list, and Rage of Halone is the most damaging and (I assume) emnity generating ability a Paladin has, but that would also ruin any combos you have going on, so is that a good idea?
How much do you use Flash? I've seen people say a couple of times, I've seen people say 'til half MPs, and I've seen people say spam it 'til stuff is dead. Understanding that using Fast Blade > Riot Blade to get MP back is keeping me from doing my job effectively as a tank (i.e.: keeping emnity), what is a good ratio of Flash-to-combat generally?
And finally, what will probably be my biggest problem: I'm on a PS4, and I've forever had problems conning things. Healing is easy, 'cause I can just hit up or down on the d-pad to get to my intended target, but tanking is a very different animal, and will require me to shift between enemy mobs quickly, and I am unsure if I'd be capable of handling errant runaways. Is there any way I could set it up so that targeting enemies is easier?
Yes, I know I'm basically asking for Paladin Tanking 101, and it's probably not as complex as I think it is...I just don't want to be "that tank" that can't do their job properly. Lord knows I've had enough of them levelling up.
Thank you for any "advice" that is given...
"When men run out of words, they reach for their swords." "Let's hope we can keep them talking."
When I was leveling paladin I would only use Shield Lob then Fast Blade > Savage Blade > Rage of Halone when dealing with one mob or a boss. If it was 2 or 3 or more mobs I would shield lob one then when they got around me I would flash 3 times. Then start combos. If the fight dragged on I would flash again. I never set up any macros.
Rather than copy and pasting I will leave you with 2 links from topics created on ZAM forums by Duo Maxwell (*gasp*). Within all the posts responding back to try and help him it should be useful to someone who might be trying to tweak their playstyle while on pld
My personal rotation before 50 was Shield Lob > Flash > FB > SB > RoH > Flash > FB > SB > change to 2nd target > RoH > change back to 1st target > FB > change to 3rd target > SB > change back fo 1st > RoH, use provoke if needed. For endgame the rotation is basicly the same just use Circle of Scorn right before flashing and whenever it becomes avalible as long as there is more than one enemy and use Spirits Within whenever avalible. As for macros, I don't use them for tanking, don't really see the need.
